Session 1: Introduction to Online Fundraising

What is Online Fundraising
We'll define online fundraising and describe the building blocks to a successful nonprofit Internet presence. Topics include traditional fundraising paradigms as they relate to the Internet, habits and needs of the online nonprofit supporter, and profiles of successful online nonprofits.

Organizational Capacity & Online Fundraising
How does the Internet and Internet fundraising fit into your organization's development priorities and communications plans? We'll discuss what organizational pieces need to be in place for a successful internet fundraising campaign. To focus their online efforts, students will participate in an in-class assessment of where their organization is at in implementing an Internet fundraising presence (web site, online donation processing, interactive web content, email messaging, database/internet integration).

A component of this section will review online donation process vendors/features and what to look for when choosing an online donation processing vendor.

Email is a pivotal part of an organization's internet strategy. In this session we'll cover why email is so important, and delve into strategies for effective email communications (building email lists, e-newsletters, spam guidelines, email messaging vendors, online/offline fundraising campaigns). A component of this session will introduce and describe the importance of email messaging software, and review vendors and features.

Database Integration: Part 1, Session 6
You're about to send your first online email appeal, do you know where your data is? This session covers database basics, and the importance of a database administrator in matching email campaign data to database information. Students are introduced to the concept of integrated data systems and vendors.

Creating a Successful Internet Strategy and Online Campaign: Part 2, Session 6
Here's where we put it all together. We?ll review the fundamentals of creating an online fundraising campaign/internet strategy and the presenter will share success stories of several nonprofit organizations. Using a matrix, participants will begin their own internet campaign and share their website and internet strategy with the group.
