Drummond Pike, President
Drummond Pike founded Tides Foundation in 1976, and serves as CEO of Tides Network as well as its founding entities Tides Foundation, Tides Center and Tides, Inc. He is also President of Highwater, Inc., a real estate venture and historic preservation effort in San Francisco's Presidio National Park that serves as a General Partner in the Thoreau Center Partners. Drummond was a founder and Associate Director of the Youth Project in Washington, DC and served as Executive Director of the Shalan Foundation in San Francisco from 1976 to 1981. He was also one of the founders of Working Assets in 1983.
China Brotsky, Treasurer
China Brotsky is the Director of Special Projects for Tides Foundation and Tides Center. China joined Tides in 1990 as Chief Financial Officer after six years in public accounting. She managed the restoration and development of the Thoreau Center for Sustainability in San Francisco's Presidio National Park - home to Tides - and continues to facilitate ongoing community building activities at the Thoreau Center. She manages Web development for Tides, including several projects aimed at improving service to and communication with our donors and grantees. China is active on the boards of several Bay Area social justice organizations.
Dan Carol, Secretary
Dan Carol is co-principal of Carol/Trevelyan Strategy Group ( www.ctsg.com), which since 1993 has helped nonprofits, unions, political candidates, socially responsible businesses and other organizations market their ideas in the public policy arena and achieve their objectives with target audiences and constituencies. His work to strengthen the tools and tactics of progressives has been profiled by the Wall Street Journal and The Register Guard. Dan has served as a budget analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, former Research Director for the Democratic National Committee, and managing editor of www.junction-city.com. His writings on digital politics and other issues have been published in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, The Oregonian and the Los Angeles Times. He also serves on the boards of Progressive Majority and the Rolling Thunder Project.
Stephanie J. Clohesy, Chair
Working in the non profit and philanthropic sector since 1971, Ms. Clohesy has substantial experience in public policy, systemic social change, national and international leadership. Since 1993 she has owned her own consulting practice serving foundations and non profits throughout the U.S. and globally. She provides strategic planning, research and strategic program design, organizational development and structural design of organizations and teams. Recent clients include: W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Sister Fund, Girls Best Friend Foundation, The Omidyar Foundation, California Wellness Foundation, The Tides Center, The Women's Funding Network, BoardnetUSA, Rutgers University. From 1987-1992 she was a program officer at the Kellogg Foundation; Fund for the Future Director at the Foreign Policy Association 1985-1987; Executive Director at the NOW Legal Defense Fund 1977-1985; Administration Director, Center for Policy Research 1972-1977.
